On The Poem

'An Examination Of Her Body After Death'

By Glen Colquhoun

I am writing about the language features of this poem ‘An examination of her body after death ‘   by Glen Colquhoun. I will be describing the use of metaphor and imagery. Also the ideas of the, Denying and Remembering.

One of the important ideas in this poem is Glen denying the death of his friend. The author uses repetition to support this, starting each stanza with ‘You are not her ’. He doesn’t want to believe that she is dead, as he is saying in the first stanza ' there has been a mistake'. By reading the poem you know he is angry and frustrated.  What shows that is all the exclamation marks there is in this poem. And sort of demanding she is alive.

Another idea in this poem is him remembering her, the author uses metaphor to create imagery to remember his loving friend. One metaphor he uses is 'sound of bird have gone away', comparing her voice to a bird, sort of saying she had a sweet voice. He is remembering her throughout the poem, with his strong imagery in the poem. Another image is describing her lips, ' these two fat worms now hungry for dirt'.

In my opinion the author has written a good poem, this poem shows his sadness, grief and anger. I like the way he uses repetition, starting the stanzas with negatives. He also creates a lot of imagery in your head, which I think is really good.  He sticks with the main idea, Grief and negativity. In my opinion there is not even a hint of happiness, which shows how important she was to his life.
