My New Badminton Racket

Front, back, left, right! Badminton! Running around the court chasing the shuttle, sweaty hands controlling the racket. Opponent serves, he is staring and watching you as if he was a tiger watching his prey. Feet building up pain, while chasing the shuttle. Game over….. Another game another loss……

The week slowly going by, leading up to another weeks game, running around with excitement. Time feels so fast 3 hours of training feels only like 30 minutes, it’s insane. Friday comes, 3.25pm, of to badminton, I hop on to the court with confidence boosting, slowing walking on. I look up, tall, fit and strong, my confidence drops as low as it can get. I just know I am going to lose. Ten minutes later, another game another loss……..

I wake up, it’s my birthday! I go down stairs, sit on the couch, my parents tell me to close my eyes, they tell me to look, I slowly open my eyes a racket! My parents had got me a racket for my birthday! I was the happiest guy on earth. Back to training, I play with my new racket, and loving it. I felt the difference in the racket straight away!

Friday! First game with my new racket! I get changed and waiting for my opponent, ten minutes later he walks through the door. My confidence drops again. Déjà, tall, fit and strong, he almost looks like the guy that smashed me last week!

The game starts, running around the court as if I was playing for an Olympic gold medal. Minutes go past its 20 all! One point to win! He serves I hit the shuttle as high as I can, ‘zzzp’ I look down, my strings had snapped on me! He hits it back, I try to hit it, but it goes stright through. Game the umpires says 21-20. My opponent breaths with relief as I celebrate as if it was a in. I know I lost but losing by one point isn’t that bad. Another game, another loss……
